Start with a practice environment
Use an empty folder and files you can discard. Install the CLI and start the local demo server using the official quickstart, step 1. Keep its terminal open, then use a second terminal below.
The official demo uses a temporary store and a generated certificate. It is not durable project hosting. Keep real projects on a configured, backed-up server; do not replace an existing project or server for this exercise.
lore --versionIf the command is not found, reopen your terminal after installation and check the official installation guide.
Create a small repository
From a directory where you keep practice projects, make a new folder. The example below connects only to the local demo you started.
mkdir lore-practice
cd lore-practice
lore repository create lore://127.0.0.1:41337/lore-practiceYou should now have a working tree with a .lore directory. Keep that directory: it holds local repository state.
Write a file, then save a revision
Create README.md in your editor, add a short project description, and save it as UTF-8. Then run:
lore stage README.md
lore status --scan
lore commit "Add a project introduction"Look for README.md in the staged changes before committing. A successful commit reports a new revision.
